Invoice Number One
Do you remember sending out your first ever invoice when you started in business? Who was that customer? What was it for? How long did it take?
The first time a customer said yes to me I made sure the first thing I did was to call my wife. Without her backing (in all senses) I may have hesitated or chickened out and never chased my dream. I wanted her to be the first to know.
I decided to issue this first invoice as number one. It was not without controversy though. It was suggested to me that it might be prudent to choose another number. A random number like 289 or 918 or anything for that matter that would convey the illusion that I was already successful and had many customers.
I didn’t want to do that, but to keep them happy I agreed to make the number bigger. I added ten zeros in front of the one so it looks like this “00000000001”. Happy?
I plan to frame it. Would you?
We all need that first yes. Can you remember that first customer? Post if you remember.
